May 11 to May 15

Learning Targets Target Learning
I was sitting in a classroom that serves a variety of grades, and guess what I saw? Learning Targets for all the students to see! Every grade level could see what the other grades were working on! How powerfully motivating!

End of Year Behavior Problems
We might not be the only learners looking forward to the end of year festivities and wrap up; many of our students are looking ahead to the summer months. However, for a good number of our students - the end of the school year brings uncertainty, worry, and consequently increased negative behaviors. Be sure to be as proactive as possible:
  • review your behavior and learning expectations - daily or more often if needed

  • keep your routines routine - to the very E-N-D
  • stay positive and consistent

  • grant 'grace' where you can - we all need a little of it every once in a while

  • recognize when kids are feeling anxious and acting out because of insecurity, and when kids are just acting defiant
Your students want to please you - help them make it easy to do that.

Spring Advisory - May 7, May 14, and May 19 (change from May 21)
Session I is complete and was very informative! Students are making progress and the ones who need more time and support will continue to receive it as we pool all of our resources together until the end.
  • May 14: Jerome, Belvill, Edwards, Engle, Cushman, O'Connell, Guimond, Lewis, Foerster,
    Bradley, Zylstra
  • May 19: Hendrickson, Hodge/Rogers, Holdeman, Linkem, Thorson, Hanson, deVries,
    Thompson
LIC Wed - ProDev: Assessment Scoring
May 13 has been scheduled for you and your team to finish scoring Spring Writing Prompts and/or Math Assessments (grades 3-6).

All scoring sheets are due to Rebecca on May 15. Data will be sorted and added to the Fall and Winter Writing data and shared with you to review at a future grade level meeting.

Staffing Update - A Sigh of Relief
May 8 has come and gone - and our school dodged the RIFs. However, another wave of letters may be handed out this week. As you probably know all RIF letters must be delivered by May 15. We'll have a better sense of staffing after May 15 - but even more importantly for the next six weeks is taking care of each other when the final RIFs are known. As stated last week - ALWAYS be mindful of your audience and message when talking about this sensitive topic.
