Aug 24 to Aug 28

Welcome Back Team Highlanders!

Summer Mailing Newsletter

The summer mailing was postmarked yesterday! Yep, it's a stitch late...but with all the last minute changes, Susan and I thought it was better late with correct information than early with wrong information!

The important dates you'll want to know about are listed below this post - be sure to check it out before Tuesday, Aug. 25.

First Days of School - No Excuses
Someone on your team attended the TurnAround Schools conference in August. It was incredible to hear the story of one school's TurnAround from the lowest performing elementary school in the district to the highest consecuatively. The first thing the teachers and staff did was instill a No Excuses Policy - there are no excuses for why students don't make progress. If you didn't attend - you missed out, but rest assured you'll hear more about the work done at No Excuses University schools. In the meantime...

Have you started a plan for how you will:

  • Light the fire of HOPE and EXPECTANCY that every child deserves every day from every teacher and staff member?

  • Let your students know that they will learn, they will make progress, and they will be a part of their own learning?

  • Connect with every parent before conferences in October?

  • Establish and teach the rules and expectations of your classroom?

  • Develop routines and procedures for making the day predictable and successful for your students?

There is an urgency for some of our students - they simply can't wait for the best teacher of their life to rescue them. YOU ARE THEIR BEST TEACHER right now. All of us at Hunt must be diligent and intentional in every decision made. As we start this new year - recognizing the hard work ahead of us - consider these questions:

What do you need in order for this to be your best year ever?

What do your students need from you in order for this to be their best year ever?

Mandatory Trainings
Some day we'll say - "Remember in the old days when we had to sit through an hour or two of PowerPoints and then sign that we had been trained on Bullying and Harrassment, Issues of Child Abuse, and HIV/AIDS?" This year starts the beginning of that memory walk! ALL PSD employees will be fulfilling these training courses online. Here's the scoop:

1. Go to http://puyallup.wa.safeschools.com/ - this is linked on the sidebar, too

2. Enter your employee id with the 'E' in front of the numbers (ex: E012345)

3. Click Login

4. Click Log Me In

5. Click on the section you want to watch - you don't have to do all sections in one sitting, you can split it up - but you must complete these trainings by Sept 30, 2009 - NO EXCEPTIONS.

Until Next Time...
The opportunity to scheme and dream for the students you will greet on Sept 1 will pass quickly. Remember to take this next week and think good thoughts for your class. What do you already believe about them? I believe YOU are their BEST Teacher and Hope for a successful year...
