Sept 28 to Oct 2

Learning Targets Target Learning
Here are two guiding questions:

Can you assess the Learning Target by the end of the teaching session? How?

At the Great Schools - Great Leaders Seminar this weekend a 2-time SOD award winning school shared one way they informally assess learning at the end of the teaching session. I think it's so great it's worth sharing - and the simplicity of it is astounding. Students showed their understanding of the learning target by writing or drawing what they learned on a strip of paper. The strips were then hole-punched and grouped on an 'O' ring for student or teacher review. How simple is that? It could be an exit activity for the day! I'd love to hear if you try this idea! I'd also love to see the results.

Advisory - Closing the Knowing and Doing Gap for Each Kid
Oct 1, 6, & 16
This is one of the most powerful practices we do to support kids. Thanks in advance for the work you do preparing for Advisory. The advisory schedules will be posted on Monday. Sign up for a time slot by Tuesday, Sept 29. Please be prepared on the first day of advisory - just in case we can bump ahead. The goal is to make sure the kids who need support academically, socially, emotionally, or otherwise are on the right radars.

Evaluation Assignments and Classroom Observations
Both Susan and Rebecca will be scheduling the first round of classroom observations this week. Check your email for your assigned evaluator. As a reminder, staff on long form evaluation schedules will be observed for a minimum of 30-minutes two times during the school year. Short form and Professional Growth Opportunity (PGO) require one 30-minute classroom observation. This year, observed lessons should be in the content areas of Reading or Math in whole group, small group, or interventions. However, if you have another lesson you want us to see...just let us know and we'll see how we can accommodate you. Susan's calendar is in her office, and Rebecca's is hanging on the office door. When scheduling your first observation set three dates and times:

  • Pre-Conference - 30 mins a day or two BEFORE the observation
  • Classroom Observation - 60 mins (BUT only 30 minutes are collecting data about instruction)

  • Post-Conference - 30 mins a day or two AFTER the observation
Remember - at Hunt observations are intended to promote YOUR good work with kids. Both Susan and I will be looking for the ways you help kids learn during the lesson. We can't wait to brag about you! :)

End of September? Already? How does this happen? We've got data, we've got plans, we've got smarts in our brains! No matter what - the kids are the center of the work we do. Thank you for all you do in and out of the classroom to promote learning and leading for your students!

Y-O-U are the reason Hunt is a GREAT SCHOOL - aka School of Distinction.
