Sept 8 to Sept 11

Learning Targets Target Learning
By this week, please have your Targets Posted so every student can reference them. It's been exciting to ask kids what they are learning - and they can say it confidently!

President Obama's Address to the Students - Tuesday, 9am
On Tuesday President Obama is going to speak to the school children of the United States. He is going to encourage them to do their best in school and go to college. It is not mandatory that all classes view this speech. The best viewing will be on TV at the following channels:

  • C-SPAN is channel 24
  • C-SPAN2 is channel 25
Here is a link to the activities that go along with his speech:

Please let me know by email if your class will be watching some or all of the speech. I do not think it is appropriate for ALL classes. Remember, if you view the speech please do an activity connected to the speech that ties directly to your grade level's GLEs. I am excited that our President is speaking directly to our students and helping us set an expectation for academic achievement. It mirrors nicely with our Back to School Assemblies!

LIC Wednesday, Sept 8 - ProDev
The folks who attended the Turn Around Schools Conference will share a bit about the message they heard. Our goal will be for grade level teams to commit to something their team will do to promote the philosophy behind No Excuses University.

We'll also look at the writing scope and sequence document and prepare for the writing prompts and process for scoring.

Please make every effort to attend all LIC Wednesday ProDev days - your team is counting on you.

More New Staff!
Please join me in welcoming Julie Johnson to our music department. She will be teaching all our second grade classes on Mondays and Fridays.

Mandatory Training Done Yet? You still have time - due Sept 30!
