Happy 2010! Jan 4 to Jan 8

Learning Targets Target Learning

Reminder: post daily learning targets for Reading and Math and reference them as often as possible

Returning to Routine and Procedures
As you plan your lessons for this first week back to school remember to be sensitive to all your students. For some, Winter Break was a chance to make wonderful memories. But for too many, the break from school may have been stressful. Some ideas to keep in mind:
  • Not every family celebrates the holidays the same - be thoughtful in the journaling and writing activities you invite students to do - stick to common experiences like looking to the future in the New Year.

  • Make no assumptions about what students may or may not remember about your classroom procedures, expectations, and responsibilities. Time spent early this week reviewing what you want them to do will pay off in dividends.

  • Each trimester every teacher should teach/review Hunt's Behavior Management Plan - if you need a copy of the Management Plan, see Kellie or a colleague.
You are an important person in each of your student's lives. They are looking to you for a cheerful welcome, genuine encouragement, and reasonable boundaries. How lucky your students are to call you 'Teacher,' and how lucky we are to be colleagues together.

The Science Fair is just around the corner. Stay tuned for more details.

Every Monday Matters
I love the New Year - it holds so much promise and hope. However, promises and hopes are not strategies for success. While we have much to celebrate with regard to academic success - we are also being held to high stakes accountability due to our AYP status. Your CSIP Rep will be bringing to your team a draft of our School Improvement Plan - this working document is much more formal than in the past. While the plan reflects the best practices already in place, by the time it's completed, it will more clearly represent the plan we will follow to ensure that every student will make progress academically. Folded into the components will be the Title 1 requirements as outlined by program requirements. Your input and feedback will be very valuable - you are the experts in your field!
