Staffing is small, and class sizes are HUGE. I know...and so does downtown. Our only option is to wait and see who actually shows for school. Thank you for your patience, and know that I am advocating for smaller class sizes and immediate support to help you.
Character Trait of the Month Kick Off
September's focus trait is Respect. Posters will be delivered ASAP. Please display your poster in a visible place in the classroom or teaching space. Use the poster to teach the trait and then look for ways to catch kids showing RESPECT. See the right column of this blog for links to lessons.
Learning Targets Target Learning
You've heard it before...the first days of school should be targeted on establishing, teaching, modeling, and reinforcing routines and procedures. Make those your Learning Targets - and you'll be set for the year! Your job will be made easier if you start the year strong!
Learning Targets Must:
1. Be Targeted (duh) - see the GLEs if you're stuck!
2. Be Meaningful - why teach it, if it doesn't matter?
3. Be Kid-friendly - know your audience and use the right words.
4. Pass the Stranger Test - would a guest entering your room see your targets posted clearly?
5. Be Talked About - weave the Target into every corner of instruction.
Begin from the get-go, but by Sept 6, posting Learning Targets for Reading and Math.
Curriculum Updates
Life in the fast lane - that's what it feels like with curriculum these days! Please work with your team, reference the curriculum guides, and begin using the materials right away.
- Math: please let me or Debbie Belvill know if you have needs or missing items.
- Reading: print shop was swamped (under statement) - if you haven't received all your items...hold tight - it will arrive soon.
