Word On The Street
Assemblies
...weren't they fabulous? Thank you, Donna, for your work with the Hunt Chorus entertainment. Thank you first grade teachers for collecting the Veterans in First Grade data and hanging the posters. The Ferrucci Music Department brought a great troupe of musicians - what a terrific way to promote junior high! A special thank you to teachers and kids for the exceptional assembly behavior.
Food Drive Continues
...thank you for promoting this important community event. Our school goal is to collect 1500 items. Most of the food will go to Fish Food Bank right here in the South Hill off of 186th. It is very likely our families will access this resource. In addition, thanks to the plastic bag recycling program, turkeys will be made available to Hunt families along with all the fixins'. Please see the sign up sheet in the lounge for donation needs.
Report Cards
...see the email sent last week with the Report Card Comment reminders. Also see John Parker's email regarding the specific areas to assess and mark on Fall Report Cards. Drafts are due to Colleen by Wednesday, Nov 23 for processing, but if you need more time, please see Rebecca or Lisa.
Balancing Personal and Professional Electronic Communication
Reminder - any document, email, or instant message you create and send from your district issued computer can be requested by the public. It's called a Public Records Review. When documenting events or situations via email or by word processing, keep it to the facts. Avoid your personal opinions or thoughts about a person, event, or situation. In addition, as a general rule, silence your phone during instructional time. It's under review, but word is that public records for cell phones used in the workplace during work hours could be called for review. Better to turn it off and avoid using your phone when students are present.
Common Core Standards
What do you know about these? I'll give you a hint...GLEs and PEs measure up a bit...Washington State is the 44th state in the Union to adopt them. They are a comin' - and rather than wait until we HAVE to look at them, we'll roll out a bit of the details over the course of the year. Want more right now? Go to Common Core Standards at the OSPI website - linked here.
Every Monday Matters
How would your life be different if you couldn't read? Teaching your students to read is the GREATEST gift of care you can offer. Keep teaching the hard to reach...Keep your focus on the deficit skills...Keep searching for ways to give the gift so that everything thing else learned after matters.
