Policy Reminders
- Flag Salute – Board Policy #2333 states every classroom must recite the flag salute each day. If you haven’t already, please work this exercise into your morning routine right away. While you’re at it, you might as well recite the school pledge, too.
- Instructional Time and Holiday Recognition – Board Policy #2340. Please consider how you will manage complying with this Board Policy with Valentine’s Day right around the corner. No instructional time should be used for celebrations, and keep in mind that we serve students whose families may not practice this secular tradition.
By Feb 8, Literacy Committee Leaders will let the office know when the team is scoring papers. Two hours of paid time per teacher for Winter Prompt Scoring. The team is expected to calibrate using the anchor papers (if available), score all papers together with at least 2 readers, and submit scores to Rebecca by Feb. 27.
Math Assessments
Math Committee leaders were given the January copies of the Math Computation Assessment. Please use them as your team sees fit. There is a spreadsheet form for recording data if your team wants to see trends or progress monitor skills.

Upcoming ProDev and Team Meetings
Feb 8 LIC C/T
Agenda: Committees, Grade Level, and CSIP
Feb 21 Staff Meeting
Agenda: Motivating the Unmotivated
Every Monday Matters
In their book, Annual Growth, Catch Up Growth, the authors write:
Students must read well to do well. It matters little else they learn in elementary school if they do not learn to read at grade level. Even math depends on reading. There are far more words than numbers in math books. As the math concepts become more complicated, the verbal descriptions become more involved as well...The body count underscores the message: Art, social students, science, and math cannot compensate for the loss of learning to read fluently (p.48-49).Thank you, for your daily committment to helping all our students read confidently.
