Sept 10-14 BE 212! DIBELS Week!

Bits ‘n Pieces

Fair Day – Wed, Sept 12
We are operating on a regular school schedule:
  • Start time 8:50am with an 8:55 Tardy Bell
  • Dismissal is 12:01
  • Lunches will be served.
See the email from communications – most PSD staff are released from their regular duties to attend the Fair – especially the exhibits by Puyallup students – after dismissal, of course! Get Your Happy On!

DIBELS Next
Testing starts Tuesday, Sept 11 and ends Friday, Sept 14. Schedules were sent Friday. Please see your email and be prepared to be with your students during the testing. The District is transitioning to a new and improved version and a new management system called DIBELS Next.

Instructional Schedule and Weekly Plans
Use the Instructional Schedule sent by email attachment last week to plan your weekly and daily lessons. All grade level and building support services are built around the blocks including SpEd, Title I, Para Support, ELO, etc.

Please submit a copy of your weekly planning template to Admin by Sept 21.

Para Schedules
The recently ratified Certificated Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) provides for new language about overload support – now called Class Size Support. Hunt was allocated 11 hours per day of the 300 allowed across the district. Schedules are under construction right now, and will be shared soon. Grade level teams should be considering how they will collectively use an assigned para to support student learning and achievement. Paras assigned to teams should be in direct contact with students rather than attending to paperwork.

Staffing
We’re lookin’ good. No gains (sorry 1st, 2nd, & 4th)…no losses (like IVTs!). As long as our 4 day and 10 day counts stay steady, we should be fine. It all hinges on 3 things:
  1. entry and withdrawals
  2. teachers submitting attendance correctly and on time
  3. the delicate balance around the District – PSD is still under projections overall
Health Insurance
Be sure to review the emails and links if you need to change insurance. All changes must be completed online at Employee Online and paperwork turned into the benefits office by Sept 14.

Curriculum Night – Sept 18
**a communication flier will go home from the office this week**

3.25 hours trade from Sept 4 (subtract 30 min lunch & 30 min planning)

Schedule
5:45-6:30 Session 1
6:30-6:45 Q&A

6:45-7:00 Transition

7:00-7:45 Session 2
7:45-8:00 Q&A

Prepare a 45-minute presentation for the parents/guardians of your students.  You will deliver the message two times during the evening. Teachers are encouraged to address classroom expectations, routines, and procedures, but the meat of your message should focus on academic content, curriculum, and assessments. Consider how you will provide this information to parents through displays, sample student work, powerpoint, use of the SmartBoard, and/or handouts. Also consider how you can recruit a few volunteers for room parent, art docent, and community connections.

BE 212: Every Monday Matters
At the ERHS student panel on Aug 29 - remember they shared that they wanted each of us to smile?  They also said they liked it when their teacher greeted them at the door.  There's no cleverness needed in a friendly, genuine, heartfelt greeting, but there is patience and tenacity.  Be glad to see each child this week!  Thanks for that little extra degree you give each other and the kids!  That's a 212 Attitude!
