Sept. 15 - 19

What's That You Say?
Have you considered what your classroom says about learning? If a stranger were to walk into your room, would he/she be able to assess quickly if you and your students are engaged in activities and lessons that are meaningful and relevant? Do you have your daily schedule clearly posted so it can be easily referenced? Do you have your target learning goals for the day or week clearly displayed so your students can say at a moment's notice what it is they are learning? When assigning an activity, can you identify the learning objective? If you can't, you can be sure your students can't either. Consider what your classroom says about learning.

Making the Routine, Routine
We owe it to our students to help them learn what is expected at school. It is all of our responsibility to hold students accountable. More importantly, it is all of our duties to catch kids doing the right thing.

On September 15th, a Behavior Assembly has been scheduled. Please note the following times and plan to attend with your students:

Grades 1 & 2 12:30 - 1:00

Grade 4 & 5 1:10 - 1:50

Grade 6 1:50 - 2:20

Grade 3 2:30 - 3:00

Kinders - we'll come into your classrooms

Keep in mind, it's always easier to lighten up later than tighten up too late. Teach your students how to transition from your classroom to other areas of the school. It's important that these transition occur quietly and without disturbing other classes.

Saying Good-bye At the End of Day
Thank you for walking your students out to their dismissal spots. While the weather is beautiful, it's easy - but student safety is top priority. Please continue to escort your students at the end of the day - every day.

Reading PLUs for Grades 2 and 3
It's back! We'll be hosting PLU pre-service teachers again this year beginning Oct. 1. Stay tuned for more information. Until then, be considering which students would benefit from Reading PLUs the most. The goal of the Reading PLUS program is to encourage the love of reading, promote language development and literacy growth while building confidence, vocabulary and comprehension skills in reading.

DIBELS
We are breaking some new ground in the assessment office! Our school - along with a handful of others in the district - will be testing all students in 1st through 6th grade. More details will be shared at our LIC Wednesday gathering. DIBELS testing has been scheduled for Sept. 22 to 26.

Building Writing
You should have received information regarding Hunt's building writing assessment. Be sure to allow for adequate time in giving this assessment - the Fall Assessment Window is open from Sept 8 to Sept 19.

The district has scheduled some valuable training to those who need it - go to the Pro Dev website:
