Feb 9 to Feb 13

Learning Targets Target Learning
Are you telling, showing, and reminding?

Winter Writing Prompts
Wednesday, Feb 11 has been reserved for scoring your writing prompts as a grade level team. Hopefully you've administered this assessment with your students - if not please do so on Monday and Tuesday. In the Fall, before scoring we were reminded that there's a procedure to scoring each prompt:

  • Scoring must be done as a grade level team to ensure cohesion
  • Writing should be scored holistically as opposed to analytically. Look for what students do well. Consider the whole piece of writing.
  • Conventions should not influence the COS score.
  • Look for the anchor paper that best fits your students' paper.
  • Avoid writing on student papers. If you want to provide feedback use a sticky note.
We will meet in the library as a group to calibrate from 1:30 to 1:45pm. Grade level teams will then be dismissed to score together at a place of your choosing on campus.

Grandparent's Days - February 23, 24, & 25
As you probably know, one of our CSIP goals is to actively involve the community in our school. To this end, we have scheduled several days for Grandparents to join their loved ones for lunch. A notice went home with the Principal's Newsletter and a flier will go home this week. Grandparents are encouraged to RSVP to indicate the day they wish to come and enjoy lunch. We are working on a plan to seat students and guests outside the classroom to maximize comfort and minimize crowded classrooms. More information to come.

March Gladness
Are you doing anything special with our students to give back to the community? If so, please see Susan so it can "Get Counted" for the good work happening across our district.

REACH/SEED - Honoring Cultures Diversity Celebration
Hunt will be displaying the projects students create in the halls and classrooms from March 2 through March 20. Our school will be able to submit up to 20 pieces of artwork for this year's celebration. Pieces will need to be delivered to Riverside on March 23. As you plan for these lessons and display options, keep in mind that one goal in reading the selected stories for your grade level is to help our students gain perspective and develop a more global point of view. Pieces for the Art Show at the Spring Fair will be selected based on 4 criteria:

  1. Concept - the project met the expectations of the assignment
  2. Creativity - the project is clever in originality, expressive in artistic perceptions, and unique
  3. Craftsmanship - the project has visual appeal
  4. Cultural Diversity - the project meets the goals and objective for the Anti-hate Campaign

If you have any questions, please see Donna Knudson, Judy Lewis, or Susan Walton.

March Conferencing
Avoid surprises - plan on conferencing with every child's parent if there are progress concerns. Intermediate students who have SLPs, any student who is not making adequate progress, or students with at-risk behaviors should be scheduled for Spring Conferences. Please be proactive in preparing for these dates. The following dates are scheduled for Spring Conferences:
March 11 Eval/Conferencing Wednesday
March 18 Eval/Conferencing Wednesday
March 25 Eval/Conferencing Wednesday

Report Cards
Trimester 2 ends Friday, March 13 - report cards will go home this day. Stay tuned for the open data entry days and due dates for completion.
