March 22 to March 26

**Spring Break Is Soon...**
...but not this week. As a reminder, please keep the learning and behavior expectations HIGH! Gearing down too early, will create more work for everyone with referrals and discipline. Stay to the routine and procedures to the very end of the week.

Learning Targets Target Learning
Taking it another step deeper...that's what I saw last week in walk-throughs! I saw several Learning Target displays which were clearly referenced before, during, or after instruction - important words were circled, underlined, or in some way highlighted. Thank you for continuing this important practice to improve learning for your students. I hope you're finding that your students are learning at deeper levels because of your targeted objectives based on GLEs.

Upcoming MSP
It's just around the corner - but not too early to make plans for it's success. As you know, our "School Improvement Step" status is determined by the data shown by students on this assessment. The first Wednesday in April (LIC PR) will focus on what we will do as a building to ensure our students have the best testing environment and preparation as possible - and keep it legal at the same time!
  • What are you doing right now to prepare your students for the 'new' format of testing?
  • How are you using the released items to help students 'see' what will be asked of them?
  • How can the primary grades help and encourage the intermediate students?

See the OSPI website (linked here) for details, a colleague, or Susan and Rebecca if you have questions. Jen Niehaus is Hunt's assessment coordinator and working closely with Robert, Mike, and Rebecca to establish small groups and accommodations.

Every Monday Matters
Spent the weekend attending two drama events with my family. Neither involved my own child as a performer, but as I watched the very talented 'other-people's-kids' perform in Federal Way HS's Vaudville production and the ManeStage performance of Beauty and the Beast at Sumner HS, I couldn't help but think of you. For a kid or many kids at this school, no matter what your role is at Hunt, you are their best hope for the future. Something you say to encourage them, or a lesson you teach, or an idea you plant will put that child on the course of success. That's no small 'thing' - thank you for what you're doing right now to help each child see their own potential. And thank you for believing in every kid in and out of your classroom!
