Learning Targets Target LearningKeep 'em real...keep 'em kid friendly...keep 'em connected to learning...and you'll see dramatic learning curves for all your students!
Upcoming MSPIt's just around the corner - but not too early to make plans for it's success. As you know, our "School Improvement Step" status is determined by the data shown collectively by students on this assessment. The first Wednesday in April (LIC PR) will focus on what we will do as a building to ensure our students have the best testing environment and preparation as possible - and keep it legal at the same time!
Keep in mind...deep levels of learning for each student is the goal. But the reality is that the data shown on the MSP will be used to determine our AYP status. It's keeping the two realms in perspective - balancing group accountability with individual progress. There's no question that there's a need for urgency - but I believe in the work you do every day for kids 100%! You are the right team with the right kids --- right now!
At our April 6 LIC Wed ProDev time - each team will collaborate and present on the following:
- What are you doing right now to prepare your students for the 'new' format of testing?
- How are you using the released items to help students 'see' what will be asked of them?
- How can the primary grades help and encourage the intermediate students?
- What else is needed?
See the OSPI website (linked here) for details, a colleague, or Susan and Rebecca if you have questions. Jen Niehaus is Hunt's assessment coordinator and working closely with Robert, Mike, and Rebecca to establish small groups and accommodations.
Every Monday MattersAhhh...vacation! It was good, but I'm glad to be back. As cheesy as it sounds, I missed the company of you and the kids! I am eager to finish out this school year strong - and I am sure you are, too. We are looking at the beginning of the end - let's keep in mind that the 'end' will mean something different to each of us. There will be much to do - on-going learning and assessing, MSP preparations and test taking, 10-11 student placements, end of year procedures, etc. Believing the best in each other and considering other perspectives will keep feelings from being hurt and grow our staff stronger. Welcome back and as always, if you need help or have questions, just say the word!
