Domain 3: Instruction - the heart of the framework
Component a: Communicating with students
Element: Expectations for learning
Application: How are your goals for learning communicated to students? Are you using more than one mode of communication (ie: oral, written, movement)? What would your students say if asked, "What are you learning, and how does it fit with what you already know?"
Danielson Quote: The teacher should convey what the students will be learning, why it is important, and what the students will be doing to achieve the goals. (from Enhancing Professional Practice, p.77)

School Data - Talk About Heatin' It Up A Degree!
Before the year started, school and grade level specific data was provided to each team in a white folder. It's understandable that it might have gotten lost in the shuffle. With less Supplemental Days, we weren't able to process the outcomes of last year's efforts as noted on MSP. There is MUCH to celebrate - especially across the cohorts of students! Check it out (green shows growth compared to 2010-2011 MSP scores and purple shows improvement between cohorts [ie: 3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th, 5th to 6th]).
3rd Grade Percent Meeting Standard
Reading 71.3% Math 66.7%
4th Grade Percent Meeting Standard

5th Grade Percent Meeting Standard

**Reading scores improved by year and by cohort!**
**Compared to 10-11 4th grade math scores, this group statistically maintained their percentage**
**Science in 10-11 scored at 59.5%, in 09-10 it scored at 33% - look at that growth!**

There's a lot of hard work in this data! Well done, Highlanders!

We are a chosen profession. We choose to be teachers. We choose to be learners. Because of that, we set sail on a new journey every day to discover the New World with our students. You don't have to be an Italian Explorer to change the world for kids - you just have to be willing to prevail over all obstacles and distractions. Hunt Highlander staff prevails every day, and especially for the students who need us the most. Thanks for BEing 212!
